GetFoldersize allows organizing disk storage space by reporting file and folder sizes. The application has a nice multi-language interface, which is similar to that of Windows Explorer in many respects. Although I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to use, the help documentation available online is definitely deficient. The tool supports various types of storage media, including hard disks, optical discs, USB devices and even networked drives.

The program can be started by clicking its icon but it’s also possible to right click on the desired folder and pick the right menu entry. Moreover, the tool can also be used from the command line. Unluckily, scanning a location to calculate file and folder sizes may take some time depending on the amount of contents and the storage capacity of the device. The size can be shown in the preferred unit, like gigabytes, megabytes, kilobytes and bytes. Unfortunately, the program cannot create a graph to show disk usage in a visual way.

All in all, GetFoldersize is really useful to make a better management of disk space. In this regard, it lets you identify the largest files and folders and take decisions about them. Luckily, undesired or duplicate files can be deleted from within the tool interface. Besides, the program allows applying filters to exclude or include given contents. Finally, you can create reports and export them to various formats.

Yesterday, Gelfoldersize wiped one of my harddrives completely after loading the drive in Getfoldersize, selecting the 6 smallest items and shift-deleting them. Imediately I sam an error-message saying a whole bunch of files couldn't be found. Looking at the content of the drive in Explorer, I saw that all files were gone. This is the second time that happened. Almost a year ago I experienced the exact same problem and spent several hours rescuing/restoring the data. Please be aware not to delete any data using Getfoldersize. Do it by using Explorer instead !

Essential app until it stopped "getting the folder sizes" in Windows 11-pro desk machine after one of the MS updates. Works on ASUS portable.
